Good News for Castleisland Community College High Achievers Kevin and Liam

Castleisland Community College acting principal, Teresa Lonergan with high achieving students, Kevin Keane (left) and Liam O’Connor both of whom received good news on Friday on the back of successful ‘leaving’ results.

There were celebrations all round for the Leaving Certificate class of 2020 at Castleisland Community College when they received their results.

It was certainly a roller coaster of a year for them that was finally brought to a conclusion with the first round of CAO offers being obtained Friday, 11th September.

Acting principal, Teresa Lonergan said that 50% of the 2020 year group achieved over 400 points and over 90% received their first choice.

A Class of Grit, Resilience and Determination

“The class of 2020 showed grit, resilience and determination to get through the many upheavals over the last few months.

“There was genuine relief when they received their offers. These included : medicine; veterinary science; law; engineering; business; PE teaching with Irish; primary school teaching; secondary school science teaching and microbiology,” said Ms. Lonergan.

Kevin Realised his Dream

Kevin Keane from Castleisland has realised his dream of becoming a doctor with his offer of Medicine at UCC. Kevin obtained the maximum score of 625points and he also achieved the ninety third percentile in his Health Professions Admission Test (HPAT) result.

Liam Got his Veterinary Science Offer

Following closely behind him was Liam O Connor with his offer of a place in Veterinary Science at UCD. Liam, from Knockeen, Castleisland, obtained 602 points.

“Growing up on the family farm, he is well experienced and grounded in all aspects of farming.

“As this chapter of their lives closes and a new one opens, we wish them every success and happiness in the future. Go n-éirí libh,”  Ms. Lonergan concluded.
