Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley has welcomed confirmation that the balancing payments under the 2020 Basic Payment Scheme have commenced.

Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley has today welcomed confirmation from her colleague Minister Charlie McConalogue that the balancing payments under the 2020 Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) have commenced this week.

In total, eligible Kerry Farmers will have benefitted to the tune of €66,181,839.30 throughout 2020 when today’s balancing payments are factored in the scheme – which was formerly known as the Single Farm Payment / Greening.

Balancing Payments on Schedule

In mid-October, the Department of Agriculture, Food and The Marine began issuing 70% advance payments under the BPS to farmers across the country, including in Kerry which saw €46,327,287.51 issued in the first pay run with the 30% balancing payments under the BPS having now commenced this week.

The payments are on schedule and this has seen the outstanding balance of €19,854,551.70 paid out to eligible farmers.

Young Farmers Scheme

Payments under the 2020 National Reserve and the Young Farmers Scheme will also commence alongside payment of the 2020 BPS balancing payment.

“This funding plays a vital role in supporting our farm families across the county,” said Minister Foley

“I am acutely aware of the importance of the Basic Payment Scheme not only to farmers, but also to the overall rural economy,”she concluded.
