Pierce is New Principal at The Pres in Castleisland

Kilkenny native, Pierce Dargan has just been appointed principal at Presentation Secondary School in Castleisland.

Following his graduation from M.I.C. Thurles, he taught Business and Religious Education in Castlecomer Community School, Kilkenny before moving to Presentation Secondary School in Castleisland in 2015.

Contributed Greatly to School Life

Since he started in Pres, Mr. Dargan has contributed greatly to all areas of school life including: two terms on the board of management, leading school self-evaluation and school improvement planning, coordinating the student’s council and managing the school website and social media presence.

He achieved major accolades on the national stage for leading the Student Enterprise Programme, where the school has won 27 county titles and seven national titles.

Entrepreneurial Educator Award

Mr. Dargan also won the Entrepreneurial Educator Award on two occasions and culminating in one project team’s RTÉ Late Late Show appearance earlier on this year.

He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership from NUI Maynooth and a Certificate in Christian Leadership in Education from Mary Immaculate College.

Innovative Progressive School

On his appointment Mr. Dargan said that he was delighted to be appointed as principal to Presentation Castleisland Secondary School and he is looking forward to leading such an innovative, progressive school to a very bright future.

“I am looking forward to working with our highly committed and dedicated staff to provide the best educational experience for our students,” he said.

Predecessors

Mr. Dargan’s immediate predecessor, Katherina Broderick has been appointed principal at Presentation Listowel. This is a post which was just vacated by her predecessor, Eileen Kennelly who has retired. Ms. Kennelly was principal in Castleisland from the spring of 2012 to the summer of 2014.
