2020 North Kerry Final

The misty conditions couldn’t dampen the fizz of excitement that washed over Brosna on Sunday.

Castleisland Desmonds took on Ballydonoghue in an intense encounter in Páirc na Féile that saw 2020 deferred final reach its natural conclusion.

It was Brosna’s first time hosting this prestigious competition and let’s just say we had our house looking its best for the visitors.

Adding some unique touches to the overall event, Catherine Nash, in fine voice, performed Amhrán na Bhfiann to a capacity crowd followed at half time by Mairéad Corridan, Sarah and Patrick O’Keeffe and Greta Curtin who gave a flourish of Sliabh Luachra music magic.

Another feather for our cap was having Peter Curtin take on the mantle of referee, presiding over the encounter with intelligence and fairness.

Desmonds were crowned worthy winners on the day with Adam Donoghue getting the man of the match accolade.

Anyone who was present for his last score of the match when he soloed the length of the pitch, leaving players in his wake, will acknowledge the MOTM trophy found a deserving place on his mantle-piece.

Ballydonoghue were troopers throughout the game and showed grit and determination. Their disappointment at the end was palpable but overlaid with their natural graciousness towards the victors.

Thanks to everyone in the village who were patient during the flow of traffic in and out during the game. Your co-operation and understanding at times like this makes the whole process effortless.

Cead Mile Failte to Ray, Dorothy and Sheila

Unlike a lot of smaller parishes around Ireland, we are very lucky that most of our houses are occupied.

It’s a testament to the attractiveness of our parish as a safe, happy and inclusive place to live. In the last few weeks, we’ve welcomed an Oklahoma native, Ray Canoy who along with his wife Dorothy Gail, originally from Germany, have settled into their home in Glountane.

Separately, the multi talented Sheila Heery, originally from Co Meath, is now a permanent resident in our village.

Both Ray and Sheila are consummate musicians and performers who are bringing not just their cheerful dispositions to our community but a wealth of so much talent. Wishing you all many happy years in this snug little corner of Kerry.

Congrats to Brosna

Congratulations to Brosna who worked as an unshakable unit during the 2021 NK Quarter Final against Beale.

To a man, each player contributed to the convincing win.  A high scoring game from our point of view saw Mike and Timmy Finnegan amass 1-7 between them.

Paul Walsh put 2-3 on the board with individual points from Tom McGoldrick, Adam Barry, Conor and Danny.  Full-time: Brosna 3-14   Beale 1-7. We progress to the semi final against either Desmonds or Knocknagoshel.  Well done Brosna.

Brosna GAA Club Lotto €8,850
