Killeentierna Community Centre committee members were delighted to be presented with the Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Award from Cara Credit Union recently.

The awards were set up in 2017 to support community based projects initiated by organisations within the credit union’s common area.

Killeentierna Community Centre Secretary, Aisling Barrett said that her committee is very grateful for the ongoing support from the local credit union in Castleisland.

Defibrillator Secured for Community

“We have invested in the local community centre, which is used extensively by the people of Killeentierna. The funds from Cara Credit Union have  allowed us purchase a defibrillator, which is secured to the outside of the centre, allowing access to all our community,” said Aisling.

“The Lauri Healy award has also allowed us to purchased chairs and carry out much needed improvements to the centre.

“On behalf of the committee and the community I wish to thank Cara Credit Union most sincerely for this award,” she said.

A Common Purpose

Patrick Burke, branch manager of Cara Credit Union in Castleisland said that Credit Unions and community groups have a common purpose.

“Together we enhance the lives of members and communities and share similar values based on integrity, inclusiveness, fairness and innovation. So our sponsorship of Killeentierna Community Centre is very fitting,” said Patrick.

“It is important to highlight,” he continued, “that the money allocated to the Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards comes from the income we earn from our loans.

Come and Talk to Us

“We would encourage any member or potential member who needs a loan to talk to us.

“Not only do our loans help our members to do whatever they need to do but they also help the local community as the money is spent locally and in return we at Cara Credit Union can distribute funds to worthy community projects like the Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards.

“As a not for profit financial co-operative, the more money we can earn in lending, the more money we can give back to our members and our local community.
