It’s all systems go for this weekend’s Killarney Forestry Rally as preparations are now coming to an end ahead of the eagerly anticipated rally.
The rally will get underway on Saturday evening, as the cars attend a ceremonial start outside the River Island Hotel in Castleisland town.
By Ivan Hurley
Radio Kerry DJ Ivan Hurley will keep spectators entertained as the drivers are interviewed ahead of Sunday’s event. This is the followers’ best chance to see the cars up close.
Six Demanding Stages
The rally proper gets underway on Sunday morning around 10am with crews taking on six demanding stages, which is split to two runs of three stages, with service in between at Castleisland Co-Op Mart.
The crews will then return to the Mart on Sunday afternoon where the winners will be revealed.
There is a top class entry received for the rally, with over 90 crews due to take to the stages. Tyrone’s Cathal McCourt carries the number one on his door with Desi Henry and Patrick O’Brien also in the top seeding.
The rally also boasts a record 15 J1000 entries, with drivers from the age of 14 taking part in their own category in lower powered machinery.
Community Air Ambulance to Benefit
All proceeds from the running of the rally will be donated to the Irish Community Air Ambulance, including all programme sales.
If you would like to donate to the charity, please purchase a programme for €10 which are now available in a selection of shops in Castleisland and surrounding areas.
Rally Traffic on Saturday and Sunday
C Wharton Tool Hire and Castleisland Tyre Centre are main sponsors for the event and without their support, we would not be in a position to make a donation to this very worthy cause.
The residents of Castleisland are reminded that there will be rally traffic on Saturday and Sunday in the mart area of the town as well as the road to Cordal for approximately 10km outside the town.
