The Knocknagoshel based Spike Players announced their delight this week to be back to the ‘old normal’ after a two year Covid break.

They have taken and prepared the Jimmy Keary play For Better For Worse – a hilarious comedy set in rural Ireland for their local community centre stage from this weekend.

“The play follows the story of a newly married couple living with the groom’s mother, often a recipe for a troublesome marriage,” said the group’s spokesperson, Mairéad Brosnan.

“The cast has had huge support from the Kerry Education Training Board and their tutor Pádraig Dennehy who has gone far beyond his duty to help get everything right for the production,”said Mairéad.

Camaraderie and Craic

“Rehearsals have been slow at times due to Covid 19 but the camaraderie and craic has been very much appreciated and valued – and more than ever probably over the past few winter months.

“All is set now for opening night on this Friday, February 25th. with follow-up shows on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th and again on the weekend of March 4th 5th and 6th and the curtain-up for all shows is 8pm.

“There is also a special fundraising night for Comfort for Chemo on Wednesday, March 2nd and the admission to all performances is €10.

Acting Workshop on March 6th

In conjunction with the timing of play it was decided to host an acting workshop on Sunday, March 6th from 10am to 4pm at Knocknagoshel Community Centre.

The tutor for this day is Donal Courtney a well known and highly respected adjudicator from Killarney,” Mairéad concluded.

Registration must be made by Email to: office@dli.ie or by ringing: 089 235 6672. The fee for the acting workshop is also €10.
