I just got the message below by Email describing the tough time fiddle player, Frankie Gavin, a good friend of the Patrick O’Keeffe Traditional Music Festival, is having at present.

Simon Haynes, of the Living Tradition publication wrote in the message as follows: “You may have heard this terrible news already, but I have just had this email from Ruby Harris-Gavin, Frankie’s daughter. Please read and respond if you can – and publicise in any way you can.”

A Difficult Time for Frankie

“Two weeks ago my dad, Frankie Gavin, was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. It’s been a difficult time, but we’re also very hopeful and encouraged by his doctor’s projected timeline, and by the support we’ve gotten from family and friends.

“One of the hardest parts about all of this is that dad has had to cancel a good number of gigs in the next few months – some of the first major ones he’s had since covid restrictions lifted – while he undergoes treatment. After two years of musicians being unable to work, this is a real financial loss.

Go Fund Me Page

“To help support my dad during his treatment when he will be unable to work, my older brother Julian created a Go Fund Me page.

“If you are able to donate a bit or pass the link along to anyone who knows my dad or is a fan of his music, we would be so grateful.

“Here is a link to the Go Fund Me. The money will go directly to my dad,” said Ruby.

I’m also including a link to his website, below where you can support him by buying one of his CDs, if you would prefer.

News and Treatment Plans

“I will be keeping the GoFundMe page up to date with news and treatment plans. The best news so far is that he will be able to be treated by the very best doctors right at home in Galway!

“Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated. Love: Ruby, Julian, Ronald, and all of the Gavins and all of the Harris families.”
