Daly Calls Out Overcrowding and Lack of Patient Privacy at UHK

Sinn Féin TD for Kerry, Pa Daly has expressed his disappointment at the weekend’s news of overcrowding and lack of patient privacy and staff concerns at University Hospital Kerry.

Pa Daly, Sinn Féin TD for Kerry, highlights new problems in University Hospital Kerry, noting that the solutions remain the same.

Teachta Daly said earlier today that he was disappointed over the weekend to hear of yet more problems in UHK.

Reports of Overcrowding

“There are reports of overcrowding with additional beds being placed in wards.  Each bed should have adequate lighting, power, oxygen, call systems and space for staff to safely move around a patient and I am being told that this is not the case,” he said.

“Many patients have no privacy in this setting and lack access to toilets and shower facilities.

Patients Deserve Better

“These patients are unwell enough to be in hospital and deserve better than such crowded, undignified, and seemingly unsafe settings.

“While these problems are new, the solutions remain the same.

“Hospital management must listen to the staff and provide the additional staffing and resources they have been requesting for some months now,”  said Teachta Daly in conclusion.
