The annual general meeting of Castleisland Chamber Alliance will take place this evening, Thursday, March 24th at the River Island Hotel at 7pm.

Anyone wising to get involved with the chamber in a range of voluntary capacities is invited to attend and make their intentions known.

Formed in late October 2015, after a series of meetings which began in the middle of the previous month, the chamber set out, under its first chairperson, Patricia Walsh of Walsh ColourPrint, with the stated aim of the development and promotion of Castleisland.

Those meetings were chaired by Michael John Kearney who is now the chamber chairperson.

The chamber has been involved in a variety of local developments and, to its eternal credit, was responsible for the rescue, re-roofing and restoration of the town’s beloved Carnegie building or ‘The Old Library’ as it’s still fondly referred to by ‘Islanders’ of an age.

The old Bank of Ireland building – which closed as a bank on October 8th last – is now in its sights and plans for a museum to showcase the culture and sporting history of the area and its broad hinterland are being tentatively mentioned as the prospects of purchasing the building are being hoped and prayed for.

If involvement of this kind is for you, the River Island Hotel, Lower Main Street, Castleisland Co. Kerry at 7pm this evening is the place to be.
