It has been an extremely busy week in the life of a busy man and local public representative.

Cllr. Charlie Farrelly’s feet hit the floor at 4am at Cahereen Heights on Easter Sunday morning as his sound system was to play a key role in the success of that morning’s Dawn Mass up at the other side of town at 6am.

That job done and the system dismantled and packed away, Cllr. Farrelly headed for home where he loaded the van with over five score Easter eggs to distribute to his neighbours in the private estate.

With partner, Martina and neighbour and friend, Pat Hartnett, they had the unique and goodwill driven deliveries all sorted by around 9am.

Roads and Transportation

Since then, Cllr. Farrelly, who was an employee with Kerry County Council Roads and Transportation Department, had been preparing for Thursday evening – his last in the job during which he got to know every stone on the roads of the county over the past 25 years.

It was a job that brought him face-to-face with the problems of the area that was to become his constituency after the Kerry County Council elections of May 24th. 2019 and the count of the following day.

Removed after Objections

He regretted being removed from working on the roads within that constituency after complaints by fellow county councillors Bobby O’Connell, (FG) and Jackie Healy Rae (Independent) who felt that it gave him an unfair electoral advantage over them.

Cllr. Farrelly said that he can now be called a full-time politician and that he’ll need every minute of that time to service the vast constituency – which he pointed out on an office map at the Carnegie Building.

The Health to Do the Job

“I enjoyed my time in the job and I met some great people and work colleagues and to have the health to retire with is a bonus,”

“Of course I’ll be putting my name forward for the next election in 2024 – or whenever it happens – but it’s all about having the health to do the job,” said Cllr. Farrelly from his office in the grand old, revitalised building at the top of the town.
