Pres Castleisland Proud of Student Niamh’s la Francophonie Art Success

Presentation Castleisland student and prize-winning artist, Niamh O’Donnell and her proud French teacher, Ann Laurent.

All at Pres Castleisland are delighted with the news that first year student, Niamh O’Donnell won third prize out of 560 entries in a national art competition on the theme of ‘la Francophonie’ – the French speaking world.

“This is a fantastic achievement, as her poster showed her understanding that the French speaking world, although diverse, is one big family of similar language and culture,” said a spokesperson for the school.

A Big Box of Prizes

According to French teacher, Ann Laurent, Niamh received her prize earlier this week in a box almost bigger than herself.

“The box contained goodies such as games, books, bags, a water bottle, pens, the list goes on,” said Ms. Laurent.

To quote Niamh herself ‘Can you imagine what the first prize-winner got’ – ‘we might find out next year Niamh,’ was her teacher’s reply.

Féliciations Niamh!

The competition was organised by associates of the French language and culture in Ireland: the Association of French Teachers in Ireland; The Alliance Francaise; Embassies of France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Belgium and Canada.

“It was a hugely popular initiative in schools all over Ireland – so Féliciations Niamh! – from all at The Pres.
