Brosna is in mourning at the death of Gerard Curtin yesterday in the wake of an accident while on a ride-on lawn mower at his home outside the village at the end of April.

Prayers had been offered for his recovery in the Church of St. Carthage while he was in intensive care in Cork University Hospital since the accident.

The late Mr. Curtin had been a leading figure in farming and traditional music circles in the area.

The close-knit world of traditional Irish music will reverberate with the sadness of the news over the coming days as his children, Gearóid, Darragh and Suzanne are leading exponents and prestigious award winners in their fields of expertise on banjo, fiddle and flute respectively.

The late Gerard Curtin was also deeply involved in the organisation of the traditional music festival in his native village in honour of and named after his late uncle, Con Curtin.

With sympathies to Gerard’s wife Mairéad and family, his relatives, neighbours and friends.

Funeral arrangements for the late Mr. Curtin have yet to be  announced.
