Weather Unlikely to Spoil Bank Holiday Weekend Plans

June Bank Holiday preparations were well under way in Knocknagoshel on Wednesday evening in ideal weather conditions outside O’Connor’s Bar. In this year of ten bank holidays there is, like in the run up to all such long weekends, a longing for fine weather to last over those few precious days.

The group I met outside O’Connor’s Bar in Knocknagoshel on Wednesday evening were setting the scene for the weekend and ushering in many like gatherings around the country for the next few days.

And though the weather is taking a bit of a dip from where it was over the last week or so, it’s not going to be too bad and not going to spoil impromptu parties like the one in The Mall.

Take a look at what’s coming and make your plans accordingly:

Tonight

Outbreaks of rain along the east coast for a time tonight. It will be mainly dry elsewhere with clear spells and just a few showers. Some patches of mist and fog will develop. Lowest temperatures generally 6 to 9 degrees in a light variable breeze.

Tomorrow – Friday, June 3rd.

Any lingering mist and fog will clear to leave a dry morning in most areas with varying cloud and some sunny intervals, however a few showers will occur in the east. Varying cloud, sunny intervals and showers will occur through the afternoon and evening, a few of the showers possibly heavy. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees, in a light to moderate northeasterly wind.

National Outlook

Overview: Mainly dry for the bank holiday weekend apart from a few showers. Becoming more unsettled next week.
Friday night: Generally dry and clear although scattered showers may persist in the south. Minimum temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in light to moderate northeasterly breezes.
Saturday: Dry and sunny across most of the country, although a few showers may push in to southern coastal counties at times. Highest temperatures of 14 to 20 degrees, coolest along the east coast. Winds remaining light to moderate northeasterly.
Saturday night: Continuing dry and clear in most areas, with isolated showers pushing into the south. Minimum temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in light northeast to east breezes.
Sunday: Some uncertainty, but indications are that rain will extend northwards across the country, turning heavy in places. Highs of 14 to 19 degrees, coolest in the east and southeast, with light to moderate easterly breezes.
Monday: Bright or sunny spells. Some showers in Leinster and Munster, but mainly dry in Connacht and Ulster. Highs of 13 to 17 degrees, with light easterly or variable breezes.
Current indications suggest that the weather will become more unsettled from Tuesday onwards with spells of rain spreading from the southwest. Temperatures will be in the high teens or low twenties.
