Currans Village was a hive of activity last Sunday, as a very large crowd gathered for the inaugural 5K memorial walk in memory of the late Connie Fitzgerald, who passed away in January 2020.

The Fitzgerald family members were overwhelmed as over 300 people joined them for this special occasion.

The turn-out was testament to Connie’s popularity and a fitting event for the community and friends to show their support to the family

“Connie was very much involved in the locality and the family wishes to extend its gratitude to everyone for participating in the walk,” said an event spokesperson.

Very Generous Donations

“The participants made very generous donations to two local organisations, Currans Community Hall and Currans Rural Development which were joint recipients of the proceeds.
“The fine weather on Sunday helped make the 5K loop walk an enjoyable experience,” said the spokesperson.

“Afterwards, refreshments were served at the community hall, where people enjoyed chatting with friends in the sunshine.

An Emotional Day

“Kay, Connie’s wife, would also like to thank everyone who helped out on the day – the stewards, the Garda Traffic Corps, those who helped with the refreshments, all who provided home baking and to Con Dennehy for the many photographs.

“It was an emotional and special day in Currans Village, where the late Connie was fondly remembered by so many and one which he would be extremely proud of,” said the spokesperson.
