Emergency Accommodation in Kerry at Breaking Point – Daly

Teachta Pa Daly, has described the emergency accommodation situation in Kerry as being at breaking point.

Sinn Féin TD for Kerry, Pa Daly, has described the emergency accommodation situation in Kerry as being at breaking point.

Teachta Daly said that Kerry County Council Homeless Services are totally overwhelmed and have now effectively run out of available homeless accommodation.

Every single council owned accommodation space is at capacity, and more and more families are being issued with notices to quit,” he said.

Homeless in an Instant

There are little to no private rented vacancies, meaning anyone issued with a notice is rendered homeless instantly.

I’ve spoken on a number of occasions about the housing shortage, the low amount of long term rentals and the need for a ban on evictions. Things are now at a critical juncture and we are at breaking point in the county.

Urgent Dáil Matter

“I will be raising the matter urgently in Dáil Éireann and with the Minister directly. This is not acceptable and an evictions ban and proper funding to bring vacant properties on stream must be provided. The stakes are too high for those facing homelessness in Kerry to do anything less.”
