St. Kieran’s GAA Club members are extremely grateful to everyone in the Castleisland area and surroundings who took part and supported the Last Man Standing Competition.

“It was a novel idea based on the football league performances of our seven clubs of: Brosna, Cordal, Scartaglen, Currow, Castleisland Desmonds, Ballymacelligott and Knocknagoshel,” said St. Kieran’s spokesman, Cllr. Fionnán Fitzgerald.

Great Fun and Innocent Banter

“It generated great fun and much innocent banter as we all wondered how our club or our neighbour’s club would do each week as the league progressed. Upon such friendship and camaraderie is based St. Kieran’s,” said Cllr. Fitzgerald.

“The funds raised go towards supporting our three teams of minors, U-21s and our senior squad. Our U-21s had a fantastic run in the Acorn Life County Championship.

“It is a straight knock-out competition which makes it very difficult for a divisional team to get out of the traps.

Performed Magnificently

“But they performed magnificently against Mid Kerry and Austin Stacks. They are a young side with almost all the players being within age again for next year.

“Funds go towards developing such a side. Football is strong within the district and everyone’s support for it is very much appreciated,” said Cllr. Fitzgerald.
