The Minister for Housing and Local Government, Darragh O’Brien has issued a draft directive to Kerry County Council to vastly increase the areas of land zoned for potential wind energy development.

In response, there has been a tightening of connections between groups opposed to such development in their particular areas.

This directive is not great news for the Scartaglen area and its residents who have been actively involved in a campaign against the massive tracts of land earmarked for wind development and associated industry.

An Important Submission

They are appealing to anyone in the area or anyone concerned by the latest twist in the development to sign an important submission as Minister O’Brien wants Kerry County Council to increase zoned lands to much of North East and Mid Kerry as part of the Kerry County Development Plan 2022-2028.

The campaigners are hoping to get as many family and friends to do the same to send a clear message back to Minister O’Brien.

Ministerial Directive

Minister O’Brien has issued the directive to Kerry County Council to increase the lands proposed for wind energy zoning in the current draft of the Kerry County Development Plan.

Further information including maps and areas impacted and a link to the minister’s directive is available by clicking the above link. This is a draft directive from the Minister, which includes a public consultation phase that ends on September 7. Submissions are again being sought from the public on the matter.

IT Assistance for Elderly

“The more signatures and submissions that are received the better. We will not be running a hard copy version of submissions this time around so if you could get to any elderly relations and friends that might require some IT assistance to access and use the e-signature submission we have created that would be great,” according to a statement from Michael Horan of the Scartaglen campaign.

“We will be uploading the online submissions in batches on the Kerry County Council website. Please make a big effort to spread the word far and wide as the deadline is approaching fast,” said Mr. Horan. Submissions can be made, before this Wednesday, September 7th with a click on the link here: https://form.jotform.com/KerryWindAwareness/submission-wind-energy-zoning-kerry
