KDYS Youth Clubs Issue Countywide Call for Volunteers

The annual Castleisland Soccer League is organised and run by the local KDYS officials and volunteers in conjunction with An Garda Síochána, This year’s victorious U-15 team captain Raymond O’Neill accepted the Georgie O’Callaghan Memorial Cup from Jamesie O’Callaghan with Helena Falvey, KDYS (left) and Garda Niamh Corkery.

The Kerry Diocesan Youth Service (KDYS) has issued a county-wide call for volunteers to join an organisation that makes a real difference in the lives of the young people of the county.

KDYS youth clubs provide safe spaces in local communities for young people to meet new friends and engage in various activities that supports their own wellbeing and development, equipping them to become active citizens in their own lives and in their communities.

Giving Youth a Voice

The service encourages full youth participation, where young people have a voice in decisions about their clubs’ programme of activities including what they do on club nights and trips working alongside volunteers.

Youth clubs are fully reliant on volunteers to manage and maintain as young people are not the only beneficiaries of a youth club.

Being a youth club volunteer is very rewarding for the volunteer as you have opportunities to make new connections in your community.

Interacting and Connecting

You learn to interact and connect with young people, grow in confidence due to taking on administration responsibility.

You and gain a huge sense of pride for creating something that positively impacts on the lives of young people in the community.

As part of the KDYS community, our volunteers also have access to quality training which provides transferable skills in the areas of leadership, group work, safeguarding, facilitation, and mentoring.

Garda Vetting and Induction Training

All KDYS volunteers are screened, and Garda vetted and complete a mandatory induction training programme.

KDYS youth clubs are supported by our dedicated youth club support worker, Marie Danaher and are currently seeking volunteer leaders across the county to support the youth club delivery in their community.
