Culture Night, September 23rd, will see fiddle player and Sliabh Luachra academic, Matt Cranitch, launch the return of the award winning Handed Down series in the Heritage Centre, Scartaglen.
The Handed Down committee is looking forward, with excitement and anticipation, to this season which sees the return of: Nickie McAuliffe, Pádraig MacMathúna, Matt Cranitch, Aoife Nic Chormaic, Con Moynihan, Paddy Glackin and Eóin Stan O’Sullivan.
Old Photographs and Videos
“The donation of four old photographs and a 1980 video, featuring legendary local musicians and set dancers, has provided the inspiration for the new series,” said series founder member, PJ Teahan.
“The programme of events from October to May includes a night with the Sliabh Luachra Musician in Residence, Eoin Stan O’Sullivan and a night featuring a specially commissioned documentary on the ‘Road To Glountane Bus Tour’ which took place in May this year,” PJ revealed.
October 1st Start Date
“Handed Down is delighted to start on October 1st. with a night to thank the committee of the Patrick O’Keeffe Traditional Music Festival for all they have done for the area since 1993.
Committee member Paudie O’Connor will host ‘Memories from 30 years of the Patrick O’Keeffe Festival’ inspired by a special photo of the very first session in 1993.
