Who’ll Replace Des Cahill on The Sunday Game?

Newsflash: Sections of the media are in overtime these days with speculation on who will take over the Sunday Game presenter slot from Des Cahill.

It hasn’t been announced that one time Tipperary county football final commentator Eddie ‘Effin Eddie’ Moroney could be a likely replacement for the former Kerryman reporter.

Eddie made his infamous commentating debut in the 1992 Tipperary U-21 county final between his obviously beloved Aherlow and Éire Óg Nenagh.

Somehow, for that time, his passionate, heartfelt and utterly one-sided commentary was seen in every public house in the country and much further afield. The audio of the game also found its way into every car cassette player.

Copies on video and cassette tapes were in great demand and, even many replays later, it always manages to raise a laugh. Them were the days.
