A Tribute from Cllr. Charlie Farrelly

It was with heavy hearts that Castleisland Race Committee learned today of the unexpected and sad passing of one of our esteemed joint presidents Frank Kenny, Killarney Road, Castleisland.

Frank was a integral part of our Castleisland Race Committee, especially when it came to race day, where for many years he was the steward who was responsible for the gate collections along with his good friend John ‘Skevena’ O’Sullivan and in recent years with his own son Ted.

Once we had this crew in place, each year’s beneficiaries were sure to have a bumper gate.

Frank was known far and wide as being a pure gentleman, whether it was as a employee of Kerry Group, or a regular visitor with Kate, to the many social dancing venues around Kerry, or on the canvass trail at election time.

I’m sure his proudest day was getting his long time friend Tom Fleming, from his beloved Scartaglen, elected as a TD to Dáil Éireann in 2011.

A big part of his life in retirement was his day to day voluntary efforts with the Tidy Towns group along the Killarney and Piggery Roads with his neighbours Éamonn and Mary Ann Breen and he gave his free time to our voluntary fundraising race committee.

To his beloved wife Kate, to his children Ted, Maureen and Margo and his extended family and very wide circle of friends, we offer our sincere sympathies.

Frank you have left a void in our committee and community that we will find it hard to fill, Rest In Peace our beloved friend.”
