Minister for Education and Kerry T.D Norma Foley welcomes today’s announcement of €869,268 in Town and Village Renewal Scheme Funding for Kerry.
The announcement represents the largest ever investment under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme and will see a range of landmark projects delivered across Rural Ireland.
The successful projects for Kerry are as follows:
Castleisland – The upgrade and enhancement of the Castleisland Town River Walk for community enjoyment and to increase footfall for local businesses – €219,268
Causeway – Refurbishment of the former Shannon Ballroom (currently derelict) creating a facility within Causeway, which provides a focal point for the community that will be used as a meeting space and co-working hub – €250,000
Moyvane – Refurbish the former Garda Station building to encompass badly need amenities for the community: tea/coffee dock with outside seating area – €250,000
Tarbert – Funding under the Streetscape Enhancement Measure in Tarbert – €100,000
Castleisland – Public Realm plan for Main Street Castleisland, to readdress the street-scape to make the town more inviting and usable for residents and visitors alike – €50,000
Building Acquisition Measure
Under the Building Acquisition Measure of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, local authorities were asked to engage with local communities to identify suitable vacant or derelict properties that could be taken into public ownership and converted for community use.
Kerry County Council have been successful under this measure for the purchase of Moyvane Garda Station for community use as a multi-purpose hub.
Providing Significant Investment
Minister Foley said that the Town and Village Renewal Scheme is a vital source of funding for local communities and businesses in Kerry.
“Today’s announcement from Government will provide significant investment for five important projects in Castleisland, Causeway, Moyvane and Tarbert.
“These five ambitious plans will assist local communities to re-imagine and redevelop the centres of their towns and villages,” she said.
