Dance history was made on a recent Wednesday at St. John’s Hall as Presentation Castleisland’s first ever Got to Dance competition was held there.

After months of preparations, the final seven groups battled it out in ‘The Hall’ to be crowned the very first winners of the contest.

The judging panel of teachers: Noreen O’Shea, Monica Murphy, Chloe Daly and Principal Pierce Dargan found the standard was extremely high and picking a winner proved difficult.

Audience and Atmosphere

PE teacher Kevin Moore felt that the whole school in attendance created a great atmosphere.

“It was a credit to the dancers to be able to stand up and perform in a highly pressurised situation. “Though we are noted for being a strong sports school, dance is an element of PE that gives those who aren’t as interested in the traditional sports a platform to express themselves,” he said.

“In the end, 2XFusion ran out winners after the audience and judges votes were combined.

Dancing to Kesha, the group included Emily O’Rourke Philpott, Leire Arana, Barbara Dolata and Amelia Jarza.

Brought the House Down

“They really brought the house down and when they were announced as winners they performed the dance one last time to the delight of the audience.

“A huge thanks goes to our performers and judges on the day. Finally, a special mention goes out to Aoife Roche in TY who was our MC for the occasion. She kept the show rolling smoothly throughout. We look forward to Pres Castleisland’s Got to Dance 2023,” said a clearly impressed Mr. Moore.
