Fear of Frozen Pipes Leads to Irish Water Night-Time Supplies Clampdown

Irish Water is turning off  night time supplies between the hours of 9pm to 7am on a regular basis in Castleisland town and surrounding areas due to the reservoir being depleted to a very low level.

This is due to the high volume of demand for water over the frosty weather of the last few days – according to Cllr. Charlie Farrelly.

“This disruption in supply will be in operation again on the coming nights from the same times,” he added.

Disruption Could Continue

“If reservoirs are not sufficiently replenished the disruption may continue for extra nights this week,” said Cllr. Farrelly – who promised to keep his constituents updated in the upcoming days as he seeks more information from Irish Water.

Taps Running Overnight

“It is my understanding that the low level of reservoirs at present has been caused by selfish and greedy Irish Water customers in the greater Castleisland area and its hinterlands leaving their taps running over the past few nights in case they froze, hence the huge demand for water and now the nightly disruption,” said Cllr. Farrelly.

‘While I’m at It’

And, while he was at it, Cllr. Farrelly said he was delighted to report that the new Taxi Rank sign that he requested earlier in the year for Lower Main Street in Castleisland was erected on Friday by Kerry County Council.

“As can be seen on the new sign this Taxi Rank is solely for the use of taxi drivers between the hours of 6pm and 8am.

Taxis Only Area

“I would encourage all local residents to avoid parking overnight in this location and please leave it for taxis only.

“The area will continue to be used as a loading bay for local businesses during the day. I hope that this new designation will be of great benefit to the local taxi drivers who made the initial requests to me earlier this year,” said Cllr. Farrelly.
