Self-serving Coalition Driven by ‘Jobs and Perks’ for Party Elites – Healy-Rae

Kerry Independent TD Michael Healy Rae described the recent reshuffle as ‘a shallow rotation within government.’

The shallow rotation within government delivered nothing for ordinary people, with Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Green Party insiders the only intended winners, according to Rural Independent Deputy for Kerry, Michael Healy-Rae.

Speaking from his Kerry constituency today, Thursday, December 22nd Deputy Michael Healy-Rae said that last Saturday in the Dáil he conveyed his bitter disappointment by voting against this governmental rotation, which amounts to nothing more than a case of ‘jobs and perks’ for ‘political insider elites’.

“Ordinary people have  again been dismissed by glib talk and political maneuverings,” he said.

Party Comes First

“Continuing the overwhelmingly failed status quo demonstrates that the political party comes first, not the nation! Instead, a change of direction was urgently needed, to provide basic public services.”

“This rotation has achieved nothing for the 1.2 million people on hospital or healthcare waiting lists, nor for the elderly who are cold in their homes this Christmas, the 11,397 homeless, and the 130,000 on social housing waiting lists.  Additionally, farmers have been squeezed, struggling fishers robbed of quota and cancer patients denied access to medical cards for treatment. How can this be allowed to continue?”

Hospital Waiting Lists

“Let’s dissect this. Over 300,000 people – or 10,000 every single month – have been added to hospital waiting lists since the coalition came to power. Yet, the Minister responsible is shockingly rewarded by reappointment. This is the clearest manifestation of the utter lack of oversight and accountability running deep within healthcare management and the Irish political establishment.

“Ultimately, treatment delayed is treatment denied, and an unchanging direction in our health emergency is recklessly unforgivable. Ultimately, this government’s model of leadership has disintegrated entirely.

A Complete Pantomime

“The rotation has been a complete pantomime. Doubling down on failed policies that are outdated, reactionary, and  frankly, irrelevant to the changed circumstances Ireland now faces is scandalous.”

“Unfortunately, the repetitive priority for Fianna Fail and Fine Gael appears to be the continued placation of hard-line Green Party policies. The hellbent clinging to power of Fianna Fail and Fine Gael has been a blessing for the Green Party, who are intent on spiking the cost of everything from fuel to food while destroying the livelihoods of farmers and rural dwellers.

Refusing to Change Course

“The Greens have monopolised their minority position for the infliction of pain on the nation, just to impose hard-line net-zero targets. Their latest stunt of lecturing rural communities, including townspeople in Tralee, to refrain from burning solid fuels to heat homes is abominable.”

“Ordinary people are the victims of the ego-maniacal politics played by this government.

The Ministers must realize that the people who elected them are greatly suffering from their failures and that refusing to change course now is disappointing everyone,” concluded Deputy Healy-Rae.
