There was a deeply felt sense of community spirit and family support in evidence in and around Currow Village on December 28th – on the final Wednesday of 2022.

It was the day on which the Embrace Farm Tractor Run in memory of the late Aidan Daly took over the village and the roads around it and neighbouring parishes.

Aidan died tragically in a farm accident on January 16th. 2017.

The late Mr. Daly’s sister Eimear expressed the family’s gratitude to all who played any part in the obviously heartfelt show of solidarity and support on the day and the uplifting atmosphere it brought to the village.

What a Day we Had

“What a day we had on Wednesday – 170 tractors and €15,485 raised for Embrace Farm – which included €8,745 on the day and €6,740 so far donated on our fundraising effort,” said Eimear.

“On top of this €1,410 was raised in the Moss Keane Rugby Tournament on December 29th for which we were extremely grateful and we thank the Moss Keane Tournament Committee for their generosity. The monies raised will be put to great use by Embrace Farm,” she assured.

“Our family would sincerely like to thank everyone for their extremely generous donations.

Overwhelmed by Support

We were overwhelmed by the huge support shown to us on the day and from the bottom of our hearts we want to thank those who helped make it a great success,” Eimear continued.

“From the stewards who were out in force from 10:30am, to everyone who helped with registering, serving refreshments and all those who baked especially for the occasion and to the Garda Traffic Corps for providing assistance.

“Thanks to Francis McCarthy in our local shop for her help and DenJoes in Castleisland for sponsoring and delivering food on the night. A big thank you to Mairead O’Keeffe who took lovely photos of the event.

A Fabulous Village Atmosphere

“Thanks to Niall Murphy of Castleisland Tyre Centre and Malley Reidy for providing support vans.

“Most importantly, a huge huge thank you to all participants and spectators that came out in their numbers to support the event – there was a fabulous atmosphere in the village and a great sense of community was felt.

“Thank you to Joan Brosnan, Roseanne O’Shea, Ann McAuliffe and Con Moynihan for the lovely music in Cunniffe’s Bar and to the hall committee for the use of Killeentierna Community Centre.

“Also, we really appreciate everyone’s patience on the roads while the event was taking place as, unfortunately, traffic disruption along the route was inevitable but we thank everyone for their understanding.

Sponsors’ Great Generosity

“Lastly, we would like to thank local businesses who showed great generosity in sponsoring prizes for the raffle and donating to the fund: Castleisland Tyre Centre; Mike and Mag O’Sullivan; Tim and Frances McCarthy, Currow; M.D O’Shea’s, Killarney; Browne’s Hardware, Castleisland; Kerry Group, Castleisland; McElligott’s, Castleisland; Centra Farranfore; Jackie Reidy’s, Castleisland; Castleisland Motor Factors; The Treasure Chest, Castleisland and Walsh Bros Electrical, Castleisland.

“Finally, Aidan would have absolutely loved the event and it was lovely to see everyone come together to celebrate his memory,” said Eimear in a poignant conclusion.
