Kerry County Council’s application to the Heritage Council for funding for Castleisland under the Historic Towns Initiative is now being prepared.

A successful outcome to this application by the council would ensure that work will be carried out that will improve the building fabric of the town at very reasonable cost of 20% to the local participants.

“Castleisland Chamber Alliance and the local Tidy Towns group have been working together on various initiatives to improve the quality of the town realm for people in Castleisland and we want to ensure that we bring and support life on the streets of our town,” said chamber Chairman, Michael John Kearney.

Upstairs and Street Level

“Work that is supported includes shopfront and other external finishes, and interestingly, costs of bringing upstairs and street level properties back into use comes within the remit of the initiative,” said Mr. Kearney.

Anyone interested in this Initiative can get the suggested application formats from Michael John Kearney on mjkcastleisland@gmail.com.

Support to Historic Towns

The Historic Towns Initiative 2023 aims to provide support to historic towns engaged in a programme of heritage-led regeneration.

In 2023 the scheme is particularly interested in projects that address residential vacancy in town centres, that propose the re-use of historic structures and that can act as a demonstrator for future projects. The scheme will continue with two funding streams for 2023.
