Minister Foley Welcomes over €4 million in Community Recognition Funding

Minister Foley has welcomed the funding announcement of €4,403,073 for Kerry County Council under the new Community Recognition Fund.

Minister for Education and Kerry T.D Norma Foley has welcomed the announcement €4,403,073 in funding for Kerry County Council through a new Community Recognition Fund.

This major initiative, the first of its kind, is designed to specifically support communities across the country that have welcomed and are hosting families and citizens from Ukraine and other countries.

Development of Facilities

This funding will support the development of facilities that will be used in the future by all members of the community in Kerry.

Among the projects that will be supported under the fund include: The refurbishment of local sports clubs and facilities; The upgrade of community facilities such as play areas, walkways, parks and community gardens; The purchase of equipment to benefit local clubs, festivals, music and arts organisations; The enhancement of school or parish facilities that are open to the wider community after hours or on weekends and Transport infrastructure such as community vehicles and bus shelters.

€50 Million Allocated 

In total €50 million has been allocated across all local authorities based on the number of new arrivals located there.

Minister Foley said that the people of Kerry have opened their hearts and homes to those forced to flee the war in Ukraine. 

“This funding initiative is designed to specifically support those communities who have welcomed and are hosting families and citizens from Ukraine and other countries,” she said.

Vital Role of Communities

 “This funding stream is specifically designed to recognise the vital role our communities are playing in response to this illegal and unjust war, and will support, enhance and improve facilities that are open to the wider community.
