Transition year students under the guidance of Geography and Civic Social Political Education (CSPE) teacher, Doreen Killington are undertaking a series of mentoring workshops with Junior Cycle classes.
Transition year geography class has seen the students participate in the workshops themselves which they then present to the junior classes.
The practical workshops are based on Global Citizenship and how people worldwide are interconnected.
Overlapping Workshops
The workshops overlap with many of the subjects for Junior Cycle e.g. geography, business and home economics.
Topics covered include climate change, food distribution versus population distribution, globalisation, sustainable development goals, ethical production and consumption.
The workshops are in collaboration with Concern Worldwide and Fair-trade Ireland.
Green School Committee
The transition year students are developing their own skills of presenting, public speaking, leadership and interpersonal skills.
They form the Green School Committee in the school and the workshops relate to the sixth Green School Flag, Global Citizenship – Litter and Waste.
The school hopes to apply for the flag in March 2023.
