Members of the Irish United Nations Veterans Association (IUNVA) Post 2 held their AGM in The Kingdom House / Fountain Bar in Castleisland on Friday night.

In the course of the business of the evening Post 2 Chairman, Con ‘Rocky’ Roche presented Secretary John Wade with the Frontline Emergency Security Services Eire Forum medal.

John was the first UN veteran, in Kerry to be awarded the medal which was presented to members of the Frontline Emergency Security Services who have served or, as volunteers, continue to serve every citizen in the country with dedication and professionalism.

Ukrainian Refugee Families Aided

Recently, Rocky and John responded to a request to assist two Ukrainian refugee families in getting from Kerry to Kildare where two families, both with Defence Forces connections, offered the refugees accommodation.

IUNVA Post 2 organisers are grateful to members of the public who so generously support them during their annual Flag Day Collections.

Much of the voluntary work, primarily assisting veterans, done by the association goes unseen.

The Irish United Nations Veterans Association (IUNVA) was formed at a meeting on February 10th. 1990 when a group of personnel led by Maj Gen Vincent Savino (retired and currently president of IUNVA) identified a need to look after veterans and their families who had fallen on hard times and where in some instances the State had failed them.

Providing Support to Others

The constitution of IUNVA was ratified at its first annual general conference in October 1990 and today IUNVA is a recognised veterans association, not for profit, and based on the principle of volunteerism providing support to others which is in line with the ethos and values of our veterans.
As a registered charity IUNVA is compliant with all governance structures as per the charity regulator and has in place a robust management structure where the executive committee is elected at IUNVA’s annual general convention, run the association on a day-to-day basis.

Retired and Serving Members

IUNVA is a non-denominational, non-political, and non-sectarian association where membership is open to any Irish resident who had successfully completed a tour of duty with a UN force or organisation whether he or she has retired or not.

IUNVA remains unique within the veterans’ organisations in that among our more than 1200 members we have both retired and serving members.
