Another Hectic Week for the Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club

Congrats to St. Pats

Everyone at Castleisland Desmonds GAA club would like to say a massive congratulations to St. Pat’s secondary school senior football team on their Corn Sheain Ui Mhurchu, U-19 Munster championship victory.

Pats were victorious over Gaelcholaiste Chiarrai in the final on a 2-12 to 0-06 scoreline. 

Huge congrats to all involved especially to Desmonds own Conor Wilkinson,  Ruairi Burke, Evan Brennan, Thomas Conway, Eoghan Shire, Larry Nolan, Ayrton Burke, Mint O’Connor, and Patrick O’Shea. 

The very best of luck in the All-Ireland semi final from all in the club.

League and Championship Fixtures Announced 

The fixtures for the upcoming county senior football league were released, while the draw for the county club championship was also made. 

Desmonds senior men’s team will kick off their return to life in Division 1, with a trip to Strand Road, to face Munster club champions Kerins O’Rahilly’s on St Patrick’s weekend. 

Round 2 Desmonds are away to Milltown/Castlemaine. We host Kilcummin in Round 3. Round 4 Desmonds will be away to Gneeveguilla. We host Spa in Round 5, before travelling to Legion for Round 6. 

Round 7 Desmonds will welcome neighbours Ballymac to Moanmore. It’s back to Tralee for Round 8 to take on Austin Stacks; with All Ireland Intermediate champions Rathmore coming to Castleisland in Round 9. 

Round 10 Desmonds take another trip to Killarney, this time Dr Crokes will be the opposition; with Dingle the visitors to Castleisland in the final round of the County League. 

The Desmonds senior men’s B team will compete in Division 6 of the County Senior Football league this season.

The league kicks off on St Patrick’s weekend, with a home game against Churchill B. 

We’re away to Firies B in Round 2, Round 3 at home against Kerins O’Rahilly’s B. Desmonds head down to South Kerry for Round 4, to face Valentia.

In Round 5 we welcome St. Michael’s/Foilmore B to Castleisland, before a trip to Killarney to play Dr Crokes C in round 6. We host Milltown/Castlemaine B in Round 7, before getting a bye in round 8. Desmonds are away to Beaufort B in Round 9; we host Tousist in Round 10 and are away to Fossa B in round 11. In round 12 Desmonds will be at home against Kilcummin B, with the final round away to Legion. 

Championship Draw

On Tuesday night the draw for the 2023 Kerry County Club Championships took place.

Desmonds were drawn in Group 4 of this year’s Intermediate championship and are joined in the group by Austin Stacks, Ballydonoghue and John Mitchels.

Desmonds will play John Mitchels in round 1 of the championship in July. 

Minors:

The Desmonds minors men’s team will compete in Division 2B of the County League this year.

The group includes Desmonds, Dr Crokes, Rathmore, Milltown/Castlemaine, Listowel Emmets, Kerins O’Rahilly’s/St.Pat’s Blennerville. 

Desmonds got their campaign underway on Saturday with a trip to Strand Road, to take on Kerins O’Rahilly’s/St Pat’s in Round 1 and came away as winners on the scoreline of 2-11 to 5-15

Safeguarding Workshop

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the safeguarding workshop in the River Island Hotel on Monday night February13th.

A massive thank you to Eamon Doc O’Sullivan on behalf of all of the club for conducting the workshop.

His expertise and advice is greatly appreciated by all the club, especially all in attendance on the night.

Desmonds Senior men’s team return to action in the North Kerry League this weekend. We host Duagh in Round 4. today, Sunday at 2pm
