Next Padre Pio Devotions in Castleisland on Tuesday, February 21st

‘A powerful image of Fr. Mossie Brick with his congregation. ‘It is an image that would lift you soul as well as your spirits. It was taken on a bitterly cold Tuesday evening during the January 17th Padre Pio Devotions as the ground was white with snow. It was heartwarming to see a huge crowd gathered together to catch a glimpse of Padre Pio’s Glove as it was handed over to Castleisland Parish Priest Fr.Mossie Brick by Fr. Bryan Shortall, OFM Capuchin,’ said a statement from the parish office.’ Photograph: Fr. Bryan Shortall.

The next Padre Pio Devotions will be held at the Church of Saints Stephen and John in Castleisland on Tuesday, February 21st at 7.30pm.

The Padre Pio glove will be available for blessings on the night. The glove was handed over to Fr. Mossie Brick by Fr. Bryan Shortall the Capuchin Franciscan Order Superior in Ireland in front of the full congregation at last month’s devotions on January 17th.

The witness will be given at the coming Tuesday evening devotions by Tralee politician and wheelchair user Cllr. Terry O’Brien.

“Terry is so positive and his message will be one of hope,” according to the communique from the parish office.

Stream of Devotees

Since it was officially opened to the public in January 2020 the statue and shrine to St. Pio has been receiving a constant stream of devotees and visitors and all with their own motivations and reasons.

The intercessions or petitions box, which is placed in the alcove in the shrine, is also a central focus for visitors as it’s always ‘jam packed’ – as Fr. Brick put it.

People come from all over the county and beyond to post requests on their own behalf or that of friends or loved ones who may be going through tough times.

Prayers for Intentions

And the box is central to each evening’s devotions as it’s brought to the altar and blessed and a relic of St. Pio placed on it.

Prayers are offered for the intentions of those who reached out and the contents are disposed of in the interests of anonymity and privacy.
