LGFA Magic – Kerry V Meath in Brosna

The Kerry Ladies stepped out in style at Pairc na Feile on Saturday in their final home game of the National League.

Taking on the mighty Royal County of Meath, current All Ireland champions, the game was a spectacular display of power, speed and precision. Brosna Village and Parish rolled out the red carpet to the visitors and facilitated a seamless event for all attending.

Special mention to Mr Joe Ó Muircheartaigh (no relation!) of Kerry’s Eye who was dismayed that a game of such magnitude be played at such an unassuming venue. Be assured, Joe, that Brosna GAA and Parish have a long history of successfully hosting important games and they have perfected a winning formula to manage the logistics around traffic, parking, catering and providing broadcasting platforms for such events.

On a personal note, the grass-roots values of LGFA and GAA were everywhere to be seen on Saturday in Brosna. A family-friendly event, courteous interaction between the supporters, professionalism and dignity by the players. Many of the Meath and Kerry players come from small clubs and they felt it natural to play (on a superior pitch) close to the family and friends who support them through every game.

As well, the game was a refreshing alternative to the aggressive and cynical style of play and support that is sweeping Senior (Men’s) Football. Sometimes bigger isn’t always better. Brosna GAA and Parish, delighted to support LGFA and GAA fixtures both Club and County.

North Kerry League

Brosna travelled to Duagh for their NK League game on Sunday.

A bitingly cold day, the game was a dogged affair. The scores were slow in coming for both sides and as HT arrived Brosna had a mere 3 points to Duagh’s 6 points. A brilliant goal by Peter Curtin in the second half brought Brosna level with the hosts. But Duagh rallied and a decisive goal close to FT ensured that they took the valuable League points. FT Brosna 1 08. Duagh 1 10.

Match Alert

Minors KnockBrosna take on Beaufort in Beaufort on 4 March at 3pm. It promises to be a cracker.
