A reprint of Dorothy Macardle’s 1924 published classic account of the Civil War in Kerry will be re-launched in Tralee this weekend by Sinn Féin.

Tragedies of Kerry, which was first published in 1924, just a year after the horrific events at Ballyseedy, Countess Bridge and Bahaghs, tells of the brutal Free State campaign to crush Republican resistance in Co. Kerry during the period between the summers of 1922 and 1923.

The launch will take place in Kerins O’Rahillys GAA Club on Saturday March 4th at 7.30pm and is open to members of the public.

Commemorative Booklet

The reprint contains a foreword from former Kerry Sinn Féin TD Martin Ferris and will be launched by former Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Micheál Mac Donncha.

Also on the night, Sinn Féin will be launching a commemorative booklet marking the centenary of the Ballyseedy Massacre, which took place on March 7th 1923. There will also be an exhibition from the revolutionary period 1916-1923.

Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald travels to Kerry on Sunday where she will give the main oration at the party’s Ballyseedy Centenary Commemoration at 12 noon.
