Having qualified for the first Munster final in a sport other than Basketball, is a cause for great celebration for Castleisland Community College first year boys.

Maurice Casey is a tough coach to follow with his All Ireland Schools Basketball tally well into double figures.

But Cillian O’Regan, centre back with Killarney Athletic and Irish and P.E teacher at the college, has taken this group to within touching distance of this competition title.

Soccer has become an ever-growing sport in the school for both girls and boys since the addition of the full-size AstroTurf Pitch in 2018.

High Hopes of History

The pitch is joint community venture with Castleisland AFC and a number of FAI school quarter finals have been reached in the past few years at various age levels.

However, hopes are high with this group of very talented players mainly from the Castleisland AFC nursery and one ‘very rare’ Ballyhar Dynamo!

Having beaten some historically well-established soccer schools en route to the final, the boys have accounted for St. Pat’s Castleisland; Desmond College, Newcastle West; Boherbue CS and The Abbey School of Tipperary Town.

Fourteen Goals to Date

The boys have scored 14 goals and conceded just two along the way.

The boys of CBS Charleville await in the final and they impressively beat Rockwell College 2-0 in the other semi-final.

All support will be welcomed on Tuesday, March 28th. at the 11.30am kick-off time at the all new Banteer Community Sportsfield, a new 2.2 million facility.

We hope this run can continue and history made for Castleisland Community College,” said Aidan Joy, college teacher and school sports coordinator.
