The second and 2023 Castleisland version of the nationwide Darkness into Light movement is set for its usual crack-of-dawn start at 5am on this Saturday morning from The Forge carpark.

The team at The Forge has outlined the 5km walk route as follows:

“Starting out from the Tralee road as far as the Knocknagore roundabout, then around to the Garda Eugene Leonard Roundabout on the Killarney road. Then in to town by Cahernard, and around the Piggery Road and up Church Street and finishing back down town to The Forge.

Just Show Up and Walk

No need to sign up or register – just show up on the morning and keep an eye out for Gerdie Murphy.

Gerdie has been conferred with ‘local town celebrity’ status by his Killarney Road business neighbours at The Forge and he will lead the 5km walk.

“We will have tea, coffee and treats available afterwards in The Forge and all proceeds will go to Pieta House.

Donation Buckets Available

“There will also be donation buckets available so all participants can support the charity. Looking forward to seeing you all bright and early,” said proprietor, Tadhg McGillicuddy.

Last year the event raised over €4 million for people impacted by suicide and self-harm.

Darkness Into Light supporters help to provide vital and free services to people impacted by suicide and self-harm.

150,000 Walkers in 2022

The 2022 attendance figures for the early morning walk hit an estimated 150,000 participants at over 150 locations throughout Ireland.

The organisers of the Castleisland walk are looking forward to seeing you at dawn at The Back of the Forge at 5am on this Saturday morning and they will be baking and brewing in the meantime for that post walk treat.
