With Sympathy to the Healy Family

The Late Catherine ‘Kitty’ Healy was a beloved member of our community.

The lovely Mrs Kitty Healy who passed away recently was a beloved member of our community.

An elegant woman who brought good humour to any gathering, she was a lady with many friends. We send our sympathies to her family and friends who will certainly miss her.

My mother reminded me of a story of a famous outing from Brosna to south Kerry that she travelled on. A group of lively women from Brosna – including Kitty – boarded a bus that went to visit the slate quarries in Valentia.

On the return journey, the bus made a pit stop at Healy Rae’s pub in Kilgarvan. The Brosna ladies proceeded to host a good old fashioned singsong and many libations were piled up on a small table in their midst.

Perhaps it was the proverbial straw of another dry sherry that caused the table to give way but in the aftermath of the collapse, it was noticed that one of the group had sustained a graze on her shin. With a potential crisis looming, Kitty sprang into action and using her gifts as a nurse bandaged the fallen soldier.

With a reinforced table in place, and complimentary drinks all round, dear reader, I am glad to say, the singsong continued and the day was deemed a resounding success.

I guess what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas! Well done, Kitty, for always keeping the show on the road. Rest in Peace.

Brosna GAA Match Alert

Match Alert – Sunday, May 21st. at 2pm Brosna travel to Knocknagoshel for a senior football league division 3 round 7 action.

This local derby will be the hottest ticket of our league campaign. So many of our young players stood shoulder to shoulder with the Knock squad at under age.

It’s going to be a bit Cuchulainn agus Ferdia when the ball is thrown up. Let’s hope the day is a victory for GAA and brotherhood.

LGFA Action

Holy Well Mass

There was a great turnout for a mass celebrated by Fr. Spillane at our wonderful holy well.

Events like this really help to build connections between our religious life and the beauty of creation. Also, reinforcing the link between our ancient past and modern lives. Thank you Fr Spillane and all involved for reinvigorating a part of our culture in Brosna that holds cherished memories for us all.
