It may not console the most ardent of Kerry football supporters to know or realise that a Castleisland man lay at the root and on the branches of Mayo’s defeat of the home county in Killarney on Saturday.

Gordon Manning’s brilliant summing up, in Saturday’s Irish Times, of Buckley’s all embracing, intelligent and organic approach to the game of Gaelic football is done with insightful input by players like: Kerry’s Darran O’Sullivan, Mayo’s Kieth Higgins and Alan Dillon and Monaghan’s Colin Walshe.

And, like the song, there isn’t a discouraging word to be found from any of the contributing players.
