12th Year of Programme

The Green Schools judges in Kilkenny described the school as ‘outstanding an innovative.’

The school is in its 12th year of the programme with each flag being achieved over the course of two years.

The Green School Programme was set up in the school by geography and Irish teacher Doreen Killington with Mary O’Sullivan, head of house keeping and Maurice Casey, caretaker and basketball coach and was formed along with Transition year students.

“The programme has certainly gone from strength to strength over the years. All subject areas have become involved and sustainability is firmly embedded in all aspects of school life,” said Ms. Killington.

Thrilled at Acknowledgement

“We are thrilled to be acknowledged as one of the top four secondary schools in Ireland. Our goal as educators in the school is to show solutions to the present climate crisis.

“It is not enough for students to be persistently told of the problems that exist in the world today. “We strive to show them how they can make a difference to the environment through their daily actions eg no single use plastic, recycling, up-cycling, awareness of fast fashion and buying Fairtrade products at every opportunity,” she said.
