Skateboard Parks Suggested for Towns Like Castleisland – Cllr. Cahill

Cllr. Michael Cahill has called again for the installation of skateboarding facilities in towns like Castleisland.

Kerry Fianna Fáil Councillor Michael Cahill has again called on community groups in the towns of the county to consider the feasibility of installing a Skateboard Park in their locality.

Councillor Cahill said such a facility would be of enormous benefit for all of our youth, but particularly those who are not interested in other mainstream sports”

“Following representations made by me, Kerry County Council has confirmed that it is willing to work with any groups who wish to develop and install a Skateboard Park.

Skateboard Park for Castleisland ?

The Council advise that it will also assist any group in advice towards local fundraising and sourcing grants to fund the development of such facilities” said Councillor Cahill.

“I can not see any reason why Killorglin, Cahersiveen, Castleisland, Dingle or Kenmare should not have its own Skateboard Park” stated Councillor Cahill.

“Why not consider installing a permanent facility in your locality, where teenagers can exercise in the open air while enjoying themselves.

An Option for Youth

There is very little to do for those who do not excel at Gaelic, soccer, basketball or rugby, etc, and skateboarding is constantly raised as an option by our youth” said the Rossbeigh based Councillor.

“Locals and visitors alike would avail of such a popular activity in an open air space. This could be just the alternative activity that our younger generation need, to fill a void in their leisure time and the feasibility of providing one would be well worth checking out” added Councillor Cahill.
