Snooker and Billiards Ireland (SBI) has just announced details of the 2023 Ireland V Wales Celtic Junior Challenge and Castleisland player Aaron Horan has made the Irish U-14 team.

The event will be held in Carlow on the coming Saturday, July 1st in the SBI Academy of Excellence.

Play will start at 10am on the morning and play will continue all day to find the 2023 Celtic Champions.

‘Ronnie’ his Hero

Aaron, who lists ‘Ronnie’ as his all time sporting hero, began playing snooker a couple of years ago as his dad Gerard installed a table at their home in Crinney on the Limerick Road outside Castleisland.

“I joined in a game one time and I’m playing since then. I love the game because we go to Killarney and Tralee to play in tournaments there.

Big Break in Carlow

“I get some great pointers about the game from John Friel and P.J. Nolan. Derry O’Sullivan from the Cue Club in Killarney gave me my first cue,” said Aaron between potting balls and pacing around the table in preparation for his big break in Carlow this weekend.

Aaron is on the Irish U-14 four member team and it is expected that he will play the son of three-times World Snooker Champion Mark Williams in the course of his day at the SBI academy.
