Birthday Celebrations and Basketball Camp and Blitz for Hospice

A presentation of €1,600 was made to the local fundraising branch of Kerry Hospice at the weekend.

Laurence Curtin recently celebrated his 50th birthday and the celebrations were held in Tom McCarthy’s on July 15th.

In lieu of gifts, Laurence invited guests to donate to a collection for the Kerry Hospice Foundation. His dad Laurence senior had passed away after a short illness in August 2012.

The presentation was made on August 12th just a day after his 11th anniversary.

Pádraig Presented to Liz

Laurence’s son Pádraig Curtin presented a cheque in the amount of €1,600 to the chairperson of the Castleisland fundraising branch of Kerry Hospice Foundation, Liz Galwey.

Accepting on behalf of the branch, Ms. Galwey thanked Laurence and his family and friends for their thoughtfulness.

She remarked on how fortunate hospice is to have such thoughtful and generous people making donations of this nature to such a worthy charity.

The funds were raised from donations given in lieu of gifts at his dad, Laurence’s, recent 50th. birthday celebrations.

Basketball Camp and Blitz for Hospice

In other local hospice branch news: Denny Porter and Michéal Cahill have been in touch to thank all those who attended their fundraising camp for Kerry Hospice over the past two weeks.

Participants came from Kerry clubs such as: St. Mary’s; St. Anne’s; Ballymac Bobcats; Ballybunion Wildcats and St. Bridget’s and the turnout was huge.

They also want to remind everyone that to wind down the event, a Blitz will take place for participants this Sunday, August 20th in Castleisland Community Centre from 9:15am.

The Blitz commences with U-10 boys at 9:15am, U-10 girls will run from 10am -11am, U-12 boys 10:40 to 11:40am. U-12 girls 11:40am – 12:30 pm and a mixed U-14 will commence at 12.30pm. The coaches are encouraging people to drop by and support the young basketballers.

There will be an opportunity to donate to Kerry Hospice on the day if people so wish.
