Ballymac Vintage Club Tops the €5,800 Mark for Recovery Haven

On August 6th last,  Ballymacelligott Vintage Club held another very successful, annual car and Honda 50 run.

“This was the 13th year of this run, and it has proven popular in recent years. The morning began with a cars and coffee style meet at Ó Riadas Bar and Restaurant in Ballymacelligott,” said event spokesman, Kieran Glover.

Cars and bikes started to arrive from 9am, and there was something for everybody to enjoy with over 120 vehicles registered on the day and the oldest car there was a 1950s Ford Popular.

“With all the major brands represented, there was a few unique marquees also to be found.

All Cars and Bikes Welcomed

All cars and bikes were welcome on the day , so we had vintage, classics, future classics and of course those just entering the vintage category from the 1990s and all well represented,”said Kieran.

Proceeds on the day were in aid of Recovery Haven Cancer Support House, which is based in Tralee and provides free cancer support services to the people of Kerry.

“A grand total of €5,820 was raised across the weekend , which also included a bucket collection in Castleisland on the day prior to the run.

Local Scenic Drive

After taking the opportunity to have a good look around all the cars and bikes, the convoy of around 100 vehicles left for a nice, local scenic drive, taking some of the lesser travelled roads in the direction of Castleisland, before continuing to the halfway point in Brosna village.

“After a brief stop to stretch the legs, the convoy continued via the Three Counties Scenic area on through Mountcollins and finished in Knocknagoshel. The local Knocknagoshel Meals on Wheels team put on a great spread for everyone to end a very enjoyable day out.

Spot Prizes Awarded

Several spot prizes were awarded on the day to participants: A €150 BG Motors Service Voucher to Brian McKenna / 1970 VW Beetle; A €50 Agri Autos Voucher to Arthur O’Connor /1985 Mercedes W123. A battery charger LED light and jacket to Ray Hanafin / 1993 Toyota Carina E.

A €50 Boyles Voucher to Frank Cantillion / 1968 Bond Equipe GT4S. A Garvey’s SuperValu Hamper to Jennifer Brosnan / 1976 Opel Manta. An Irish Vintage Scene Subscription to Mike Coggins / 1999 Mazda MX5 and a €50 Castleisland Tyre Centre Voucher to John Nicols / 1967 BSA Motorbike.

Recovery Haven Raffle

Recovery Haven also ran a raffle on the day, congratulations to the winners: David O’Mahony a €100 Reidy Killarney voucher; Denis O’Connell, hamper and Sean Counihan a €50 CRL Oil voucher.
