Castle of the Island Benefits from Cara’s Lauri Healy Community Awards

Cara Credit Union continues to strengthening local communities through the Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards while remaining committed to fostering thriving local communities as it extends its  programme into 2023.

Originally established in 2017, this initiative has already provided substantial support to numerous community-based projects initiated by organisations within the common bond of Cara Credit Union.

The decision to extend the programme further underscores the credit union’s dedication to enhancing the lives of its members and the broader community.

Valuable Community Initiatives

The Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards have proved to be instrumental in facilitating valuable community initiatives.

To date, 43 community groups and charitable organisations have benefited from this initiative, exemplifying the credit union’s unwavering dedication to fostering positive change.

Sean Roche, chairperson of Cara Credit Union’s community sponsorship committee, emphasised the commitment to their ethos and that it is acutely aware of the trust and loyalty received from members.

Betterment of Communities

Supporting projects that contribute to the betterment of communities aligns seamlessly with our values.

The Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards allow us to channel funds into projects that complement the commendable efforts of community groups, enriching the lives and environments within Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff, and Causeway.

Pa Laide, CEO of Cara Credit Union, shed light on the origin of the awards and how Lauri Healy, a founding director of Tralee Credit Union, dedicated decades of his life to its advancement.

“He also played an active role in supporting and nurturing credit unions across Kerry and beyond. The Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards stand as a testament to his legacy, a tribute to his remarkable contributions to the local community,” said Mr. Laide.

2023 Award Winners

The recipients of the 2023 awards are as follows: Tralee Food Festival, for their support in organising the festival; Kilgobnet National School, for the development of a community playground; Recovery Haven Kerry Cancer Support House, for the expansion of treatment and therapy rooms; Killurry National School, for the establishment of a sensory space.

The Castle of the Island Society, for commissioning a mural painting of the Desmond Castle on the River Walk in Castleisland.
