The release of the book, ‘Knocknagoshel History Past and Present 1890 to 2023’ was one of the summer’s highlights of life in Knocknagoshel and now the book could be in line to become a documentary film,” according to its editor, Donal P. Murphy.

Sales of this detailed account of life in the village and hinterland have been steadily growing and book signings by Mr. Murphy have been in demand in several centres around the county since it was released to a packed Knocknagoshel Community Centre on the last day of June.

As well as an in-dept and historic look at life in its village of origin, the book also widened its scope and covered politics and other interesting national issues and engaged well known writers such as: Billy Keane, Michael O’Regan, Deirdre Walsh, Owen O’Shea, Gordon Revington, Tom Roche and Fr. Pat Ahern.

Horizon Broadened

“These articles broadened the horizon of the book and it captured the imagination of a wider group of readers as a result.

While Mr. Murphy is considering the documentary option he is also anxious that the people he grew up with in the village and parish, should be presented in an honest and true light and that ‘the fall and rise of the parish be documented properly,’ – as he put it.

The banner that made Knocknagoshel famous: Arise Knocknagoshel and take your place among the Nations of the Earth – should be truly honoured.

To date there are approx 700 copies of the book sold, from a print run of 2,000.

Cancer Bus to Benefit

The Kerry/Cork Cancer Bus will receive any funds after expenses are covered and it is estimated that it will take a sale of over 1,000 copies to break even and pay all expenses.

The Knocknagoshel Historical Association under: Chairman Sean Chris O’Connor; Vice Chairman Joe Long; Secretary Donal P. Murphy and active committee member Gerard Joy are leaving no stone unturned in securing maximum sales.

The popular book has been available in USA and Britain through O’Mahony Book Store, Tralee and Limerick.
