If you see the lights on late at the Ivy Leaf Art Theatre these nights it’s because the Island Players are in the throes of preparations for their first post-Covid production with the comedy Turf

Written by locals Kevin McGaley and Redmond Roche the play will be staged at the Ivy Leaf from Thursday, January 18th to Sunday 21st. inclusive.

“A comedy set in an Imaginary Ireland, Turf follows the attempts of Paideen and Seaneen to keep control of their family-owned radio station when threatened with a take-over by big business – the comedy unfolds in a classic David versus Goliath struggle,” said the authors.

Under Jerome’s Direction

“The play is directed by Jerome Stack, long-time stalwart of the dramatic arts in Kerry with lighting by highly experienced Aidan Reidy.

The cast of over a dozen players includes actors and actresses from Castle Island, Ballymacelligott, Knocknagoshel and Ballydesmond,” said co author, Redmond Roche.

“The play is in the process of writing and rewriting for quite a while and it’s really exciting to see how it’s all coming together under Jerome’s direction.

Importance of Cast Input

The input of the cast involved has been a hugely important factor in the preparations and rehearsals to date.

“We’re all looking forward to opening night on January 18th,” the co-authors agreed.

The booking number is: 086 1054515. Curtain up at 8pm nightly and tickets are priced at €10.
