Castleisland in Snow -Two Photographs of the Same Spot 24 Years Apart

On the coming December of 2024 there will be 24 years between the two photographs reproduced here.

The top one was taken on an extremely cold Friday morning of December 29th 2000 at Hartnett’s Corner in Castleisland at about 6:30am.

It was taken with a film camera on a tripod with the shutter open for about 30 seconds.

The one below was taken from the same spot on an equally cold Wednesday night of January 17th 2024 at precisely 10:20pm with a mobile phone resting against the ancient walls of the same Hartnett’s Corner.

The Change and The Sunshine

Look at the changes we can see across the street from the same vantage point 24 years later with Tadhg Prendiville’s Bar and The Castle Tavern now closed.

Be careful on roads and footpaths and enjoy the snow and the change and the sunshine it brings.

We’ll be back to the south-westerly rain-bearing winds again a lot sooner that we’d like to.
