Ní Ríordáin Urges Vigilance Regarding Charity Collections After Garda Raid

Aontú Candidate for the 2024 Castleisland Electoral Area, Cáit Ní Ríordáin has issued a warning about charity collectors in the area after last Friday’s Garda intervention in the town.

Aontú Candidate for the Castleisland Electoral Area, Cáit Ní Ríordáin, has urged the public to be vigilant following the apprehension of bogus collectors in Castleisland on Friday.

Ms.Ní Ríordáin said that two individuals purporting to represent the Laura Lynn charity were observed collecting at two locations in Castleisland town.

“A vigilant member of the public observed one of the collectors lifting the flap of the swing bin that he was using as a collection bucket and removing some money,” she said.

“The Laura Lynn charity was then contacted and they confirmed that they had no collectors in the area on that day.

“An Garda Síochána arrived and the two individuals were placed in the Garda car. It is vital that anyone who is donating to a charity should first confirm that the collection is genuine,” Ms. Ní Ríordáin warned.
