Presentation Castleisland held its school languages day recently in order to showcase and celebrate the two European languages, French and Spanish, taught in the school, French and Spanish and those of visiting students from Germany and Italy.

The European Market place took place in the morning, where the Irish Transition Year (TY) students and their classmates from France, Spain, Germany and Italy had a market stand that first and second year students visited where they learned interesting facts about the culture of the countries and took part in fun activities.

A Fun Kahoot Quiz

At the end of the ‘Market Place’ the students took part in a fun Kahoot Quiz where students had to answer questions based on the information they gathered while visiting the stands.

“Being a leading school in performing arts, of course we had to finish our activities with a song and dance,” said an events spokesperson.

“We held a ‘Eurovision Karaoke’ competition where our students and teachers sang in a variety of languages including the two European languages taught in the school and the languages of its visiting students also.

Off to a Lively Start

“The event got off to a very lively start with our TY students giving a wonderful and rip roaring rendition of the ABBA Eurovision classic ‘Waterloo’ which got everyone on their feet.

“The winners were our very enthusiastic Italian group and another highlight was four teachers performing a fun filled version of ‘Making Your Mind Up’ by Bucks Fizz.

“The winners were chosen by a team of judges comprising two teachers and two students.

“These activities were organised by our excellent and enthusiastic TY group and their language teachers Ms.Laurent and Ms.Dairo,” the spokesperson concluded.
